Zero FX 2023
I have a 2023 Zero FX, and on my last ride (first ride of the year) my battery charge acted like it only had ~3kwh in it.

It was 58% after sitting all winter in the garage. I charged it up to 100% and left it plugged in for a few days to balance the cells. Then I went on a ride.

After 23.6 miles, it was down to 25%, and I wasn't going fast at all. With a average wh/mi of 88, that is a total of 2076 WH consumed on the ride. Since it brought it from 100% to 25% (and the rate of SoC % didn't change throughout the ride) then that means that it only has 2.8 KWH of usable charge.

What is going on here? What can I do to debug this? The closest dealer is a couple hours away.

Sounds like what happened to me with my 2017 Zero DS 6.5 KWH.

Do you also notice faster charging to full and more regen than usual?

And some "magic charging"? This means the SOC% goes up a little when the bike is turned off for a while, less than ten minutes off
will show an increase in SOC% of several % when turned back on. IOW, seems to charge without being charged.

Those were my symptoms. My range went to less than half of normal, was very obvious. Much like the battery KWH capacity reduced to less than half.

Sound like your battery crapped out. Mine after a couple of years, battery was still in warranty. They removed my 6.5KWH battery and gave me a new 7.2 KWH battery at no cost to me.

Nevertheless, I would first try a few more charges to full and see if it gets better. If not, it's the battery and will require replacement.

I also stored my battery at 60% SOC and took the recommended care of it before it crapped out.

If you notice no improvements, you have no choice but to get the bike back to a dealer before the battery warranty runs out.
