Not sure if this is the correct place to put this post.

Looking at the 2016 SR - not sure if I should wait for the 2017 models. When do they release the 2017 models? Any changes between 2016 and 2017 SR's?

Hi Pat Cat,

I haven't seen a response to your question.
I have been following the development as much as it is published.
I do believe that the biggest and most important changes are:

The Interior Permanent Magnets IPM on the new 2017 motors.
The 5 year battery warranty with no mileage restriction.
According to their website, 19% more torque, 11% more power
Stronger and wider drive belt.
Better panel finish. More durable.
Locking tank trunk.

The IPM supposedly eliminate the overheat problems in the summer when demanding maximum power from the motor for extended periods of time.
I live in Texas and it is very important for me to have a thermally more stable bike.
I don't believe that any bike before the 2017 line up had interior magnets.

The other change is as far as I can tell the stronger controller from 550 Amp to 775 Amp for the R models.
Which gives the stupendous 116 ft/lb of torque and 70 hp on the R models.
I have only test ridden all 2016 models about 8 months ago, and just took the plunge and ordered a 2017 DSR.
I am almost sure that I won't regret it.

Oh, another what I think important improvement is the switch from soft storage bag to a locked tank trunk. The soft bag was so sketchy.

You might have already bought your bike.

Let me know what your experience is.

I hope my 2 cents helped.

Cheers.

Oliver
